How to take a driver's ed course in New York

Completing this five-hour classroom course gets you a pre-licensing course certificate, MV-278. You must provide the certificate number when you schedule your road test and show the certificate to the examiner on the day of your test.

These courses are given only at high schools and colleges and approved by the New York State.

The DMV requires more hours in the classroom with these courses than for the pre-licensing course so it's a good option for teenage drivers.
